The African Legal Support Facility holds 11th Governing Council meeting

13-May-2020 - The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) held its 11th Governing Council meeting virtually due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, discussing future action plans that include measures to assist African countries in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting took place on 11 May via video-conference. Council members endorsed the 2019 Annual Report and 2019 Audited Financial Statement, noting that the institution had exceeded its operational targets, consolidated and deepened its partnerships; and expanded its membership.

07-May-2020 - La Banque africaine de développement mobilise des moyens d’une ampleur exceptionnelle pour atténuer les conséquences de la pandémie du Coronavirus (Covid-19) sur les économies africaines. Selon les estimations de la Banque, la pandémie pourrait entrainer une baisse du produit intérieur brut (PIB) africain de l’ordre de 22,1 à 88 milliards. Les conséquences du Covid-19 pourraient provoquer une contraction du PIB africain de 0,7 à 2,8 points de pourcentage en 2020, ajoutent les prévisions de la Banque. 

Malawi: African Development Bank-managed water and sanitation project helping to curb COVID-19 wins Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development

06-May-2020 - An African Development Bank-financed and supervised water and sanitation project, now helping to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Malawi, has won the prestigious Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development. The Integrated Urban Water and Sanitation Project for Mzimba Town project, co-financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Malawian Government, won the award in the ‘governments and social foundations’ category.

African Development Bank approves €40 million in grants for bridge linking Cameroon and Chad

06-May-2020 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved grants worth €40.94 million for the construction of a bridge to connect Cameroon and Chad across the Logone river. The grants, comprising a €20.785 million tranche for Cameroon and €19.215 million for Chad, were approved on 30 April 2020. The facility is from the Investment Facility for Africa under a framework agreement between the Bank Group and the European Commission.

Republic of Ireland becomes African Development Bank Group 81st shareholder

05-May-2020 - The Republic of Ireland has become the African Development Bank Group’s 81st shareholder, following a declaration issued by the institution’s President, Akinwumi Adesina, on 24 April 2020.  Ireland’s application to join the African Development Bank Group was approved during the Annual meetings of the Board of Governors of the Bank Group held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in June 2019.

Pursuant to a decision by the Bank’s Sanctions Appeals Board, the company will be debarred for a period of 36 months for engaging in fraudulent practices.
