22-Feb-2013 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has approved a grant of US $950,000 to help Nigeria prepare for a proposed project to revamp Abuja’s mass transit system. The request for the project preparation money was submitted to the CIF by the Government of Nigeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The ultimate goal of the program is to facilitate wider public access to official statistics and to support countries in their efforts to improve data quality and dissemination for better policy formulation, monitoring and evaluation. The program was launched in November 2012 as part of the Bank’s broader statistical capacity building program in Africa.

06-Feb-2013 - Building on its Kenyan experience in the East African Rift Valley with the Menengai geothermal project, the African Development Bank is working on an ambitious geothermal development program for Africa.
Apart from the gigantic projects such as the 400 MW geothermal development project under implementation in Menengai, Kenya, the AfDB is also working on a series of small-scale geothermal units, adapted to the specific context of each country of the East African Rift Valley having geothermal potential.

05-Feb-2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) signed on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 an agreement to provide two sovereign-guaranteed multi-tranche lines of credit (LoCs) of respectively US $500 million to Bank of Industry (BOI) and of US $200 million to Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) in order to support the modernization and expansion of export-oriented small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The LoCs will allow local SMEs to be more competitive, scale up their operations and ultimately create more jobs in Nigeria.

The project is designed to provide affordable and sustainable sanitation services to over 100,000 urban poor living in the Kawempe Municipality, in Kampala, Uganda.

30-Jan-2013 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved today a senior loan of US $100 million to Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL) to build and operate a gas to urea fertilizer plant located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, that will serve markets in Benin, Brazil, Ghana, India, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The project will allow Nigeria, which relies heavily (80 per cent) on imported fertilizer, to progressively become self-sufficient and a major exporter.

21-Jan-2013 - On Wednesday, January 16, 2013, the African Development Bank (AfDB), rated Aaa/AAA/AAA, priced a $1 billion fixed rate US Dollar Global benchmark due March 15, 2018. The transaction pays a coupon of 0.875 per cent and a spread of five basis points over Mid-Swaps, equivalent to 20.45 basis points over the UST 0.75 per cent due December 31, 2017. Joint Lead Managers on the transaction are BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan and Nomura.

The line of credit (LoC) provided to Société Nigérienne des Banques (SONIBANK) will allow to respond to the SME/SMIs’ need of financing in various sectors including agro-food, poultry, construction, public works, trade, transport, educations and health.
