23-Oct-2009 - Tunis, 23 October 2009 – An agreement establishing a multilateral Trust Fund to improve African migrant remittances was signed on Friday, 23 October 2009 in Paris by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, the French government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The agreement was signed by the AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka; the French Immigration, Integration and Cooperative Development Minister, Eric Besson and IFAD’s Director for West and Central Africa, Mohamed Béavogui.

The project is designed to provide integrated solutions to urban development in Accra, one of the main challenges of Ghana. With more than 40 percent of its population living in urban areas, Ghana is one of the most urbanized countries in Africa.

47 Million Euros to Tunisia to Strengthen the Performance of the Electricity Distribution Network

14-Oct-2009 - Tunis, 14 October 2009 - The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (Société Tunisienne d’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG)) and the African Development Bank (ADB) Group on 13 October 2009 signed a loan contract of 47.570 million Euros (equivalent to DT 90 million) for the partial financing of the Electricity Distribution Networks Rehabilitation and Restructuring Project for an overall cost estimated at DT 112 million. The signing ceremony took place at the Tunisian Ministry of Development and International Cooperation in Tunis.

Egypt: AfDB Approves € 53 Million Loan to Finance Waste Water Treatment Project

07-Oct-2009 - Tunis, 7 October 2009 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved on Wednesday, 7 October 2009 in Tunis, a loan of Euro 53.33 million, equivalent to 48.56 million Units of Account (UA) to finance the Gabal El Asfar Waste-water Treatment Plant (GAWWTP) Project in Cairo, Egypt. The project objective is to improve the quality of waste-water discharged into the drainage system in Cairo East, thereby contributing to improved sanitation and a clean environment for nearly 8 million people living in the area.

01-Oct-2009 - Tunis, 30 September 2009 – As part of its 2009 borrowing program, the African Development Bank successfully executed a USD 1 billion benchmark global bond issue in the international market. The 3-year bond, lead managed by Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, was priced at mid swap flat and carries a coupon of 1.75%.

AfDB and Main One Cable Company Sign USD 61 Million Loan

30-Sep-2009 - Tunis – 28 September 2009 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and Main One Cable Company signed a loan agreement of USD 61 million towards the development of a submarine fiber optic cable connection along the West African coast. With this investment, the Bank has further expanded its wide support for African ICT projects following investments in the East African “EaSSy” submarine cable and the two satellites Rascom and New Dawn.

AfDB and Korea Public Procurement Service Sign MOU

US$ 190 million from the AfDB to Link up Congo and Cameroon

25-Sep-2009 - Tunis, 25 September 2009 – The Board of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved today an important financial package worth USD 190 million to link up Congo and Cameroon. This funding from the African Development Fund, the concessional window of the AfDB Group, comprises a grant of 61.9 million Units of Account (USD 97 million) and a loan of UA 59.27 millions (USD 93 million).
