AfDB Report Recommends Generic Roadmap for Fiscal Convergence in COMESA Region

09-Jan-2013 - A new report by the African Development Bank makes concrete proposals for the establishment of a monetary union in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa region (COMESA). In order to achieve greater macroeconomic convergence in the region, the “Facilitating Multilateral Fiscal Surveillance in the Monetary Union Context with Focus on the COMESA Region” study envisages a boost to fiscal surveillance at both regional and national levels.

AfDB and Zambian Government Sign US $55-Million Loan Agreement for Itezhi-Tezhi Hydropower Project

28-Dec-2012 - The African Development Bank and the Government of the Republic of Zambia signed, on December 19, a loan agreement for US $55 million to support the Itezhi-Tezhi Hydro Power and Transmission Line Project through the construction and operation of a 120 megawatt hydropower plant at Itezhi-Tezhi dam along the Kafue River. This loan was approved by the Bank’s Board of Executive Directors on June 13, 2012.

AfDB Promotes Greater Access to Water and Sanitation Services in Zanzibar, Tanzania

20-Dec-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved on December 19th 2012, a USD 21 million package to finance the implementation of the Zanzibar Urban Water and Sanitation Project in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Government will contribute 10% of the project costs. The project will be implemented from 2013 in the Unguja municipality which is Zanzibar’s administrative center and the hub of its economic, cultural and tourist activities. It is scheduled to be completed after four years.

20-Dec-2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved an ADF project in the amount of USD 10,744 million for the support project to the institutional capacity building of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).   The project’s object is to promote regional integration in Africa through institutional, human and operational capacity building, the implementation of region-wide programmes and harmonization of sectoral policies.

AfDB Approves USD 50 million Senior Loan for the Expansion of Azito Power Plant in Côte d'Ivoire

20-Dec-2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a senior loan of USD 50 million for the expansion of the Azito power plant in Côte d'Ivoire. This facility aims to finance the third phase of the project which consists of converting the existing 288 MW simple-cycle power plant to a combined-cycle power plant, thereby increasing the total generation capacity to 430 MW.

Green and Inclusive Project to Benefit the Horn of Africa

19-Dec-2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Group has approved US $125 million in funding for the first phase of a drought resilience project and provision of long-lasting means of subsistence to populations in the Horn of Africa.    Three countries, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya, as well as the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development are involved in the first phase of this regional project funded by way of loans and grants provided by the African Development Fund (ADF) beginning in 2013.
