AfDB issues 1% US $1 Billion Global Benchmark due 2 November 2018

24-Oct-2016 - On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, the African Development Bank, rated Aaa (Moody’s) / AAA (S&P) / AAA (Fitch), launched and priced a new US $1-billion 2-year Global benchmark transaction due 2 November 2018. The new 2-year issue is AfDB’s fifth USD Global benchmark transaction in 2016 and is also its first 2-year US dollar benchmark transaction this year. BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs International, Nomura and TD Securities were mandated as joint-lead managers on the transaction.

Côte d’Ivoire and AfDB launch key economic diversification project

21-Oct-2016 - The African Development Bank Group and the Ivorian Government launched a major project aimed at diversifying the country’s economy on October 18 in Abidjan. The Support to Industrial Sector Competitiveness Enhancement Project (PARCSI) will help increase the contribution of the industrial sector to GDP from 22% in 2014 to 40% in 2019.

AfDB approves US $40-million corporate loan for Afe Babalola University (ABUAD)

19-Oct-2016 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved an eight-year US $40-million corporate loan to the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) in Ado Ekiti (Nigeria), to finance part of the university’s expansion plan. The project will make ABUAD a centre of excellence for tertiary education in Africa, expanding access to high-quality education to over 10,000 students per year.

African Water Facility turns waste management into strategic input for local production value chain in Ethiopia

14-Oct-2016 - The African Water Facility (AWF) held a three-day event from September 28 to 30, 2016 to launch the Improved Sanitation Value Chain (ISVC) project, which aims to serve the urban poor in Arba Minch Town, one of the major cities of Southern Ethiopia. The AWF €1.5-million grant to the ISVC project will contribute to improve sanitation and faecal waste management for more than 21,000 Arba Minch citizens while boosting the local businesses and agricultural production with the provision of eco-friendly and affordable fertilisers.

AfDB approves 570 million rand loan to finance affordable housing in South Africa

12-Oct-2016 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a Senior Loan of ZAR 570 million to South Africa’s Housing Investment Partners Trust 2 -HIP2), also known as Vulumnyango Trust, to help finance affordable housing programmes in the country. The loan will help improve access to long-term affordable housing finance to South Africa’s lower-middle income earners currently with limited opportunities to access affordable mortgages.

AfDB approves US$ 22 million to finance Youth Agribusiness project in Malawi

05-Oct-2016 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a US$22.33 million concessional loan to the Republic of Malawi to finance the country’s Agricultural Infrastructure and Youth in Agribusiness Project. The project will develop two large scale irrigation schemes at Linga (Nkhata-Bay) and Dwambazi (Nkhotakota) in the central region of the country. It covers 1,945 hectares and targets 10,000 beneficiaries with special focus on the youth who constitute about 50% of the beneficiaries.
