AfDB with GEF support continues to strengthen resilience to climate change in Africa

09-Jun-2015 - The Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved USD 35 million in funding to improve climate resilience to be channeled through the African Development Bank for programs in Côte d’Ivoire, Chad, Zambia, in addition to one which spans several countries. The announcement was made at the recent 48th session of the GEF Council Meeting during which the largest GEF work program in its 23 years of history – USD 709 million – was endorsed.

29-May-2015 - Power sector reform and a governance support programme are central to the African Development’s actions to accompany Tanzania’s economic growth. It is in line with this, that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania, Servacius Likwelile and the African Development Bank’s Vice-President, in charge of Agriculture, Water, Human Development, Governance and Natural Resources, Aly Abou-Sabaa signed a USD 70.5 million loan accord on May 27 in Abidjan.

Egypt, AfDB sign two loans and a grant for Sharm el-Sheikh airport development

29-May-2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Egypt, on May 29 in Abidjan, signed two loans and a letter of agreement. The two loans are worth US $140 million – US $90 million from the AfDB window and US $50 million loan from the Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF). The letter of agreement concerned a grant from the Middle Income Countries (MICs) Technical Assistance Fund of UA 1.2 million (approximately $1.7 million).

AfDB scaled up project funding by 15% to US$ 7.6 billion in 2014

27-May-2015 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) realised a 15.3-percent increase in its operations turnover in 2014 compared to 2013 despite the challenging global and regional economic environment, according to AfDB 2014 Annual Report. Support to infrastructure accounted for over half of the US $7.6 billion invested in the Regional Member Countries (RMCs) during the year, representing a 15.3-percent increase over the 2013 funding portfolio.

AfDB signs US $100 million Risk Participation Facility with FirstRand Bank S.A. to boost African trade

27-May-2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) formally signed on Wednesday, May 27 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in the prelude of the 50th AfDB Annual Meetings, a USD 100 million unfunded Risk Participation Agreement (RPA) with FirstRand Bank S.A. which the two banks will share the default risk on a portfolio of eligible trade transactions originated by African issuing banks in Africa and confirmed by FirstRand Bank.
