27-Oct-2014 - On 27th October 2014 the African Development Bank (AfDB) joins the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, the African Union, the World Bank, the European Union and Islamic Development Bank in a 4-day visit to the Horn of Africa. At the start of the visit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AfDB pledged a new $1.8 billion development assistance package for the next 3 years 2015-2017.
After Ethiopia, the Heads of the institutions and representatives will visit Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya where they will hold talks with the countries’ leaders.

22-Oct-2014 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank on Wednesday, October 22 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, approved a grant of US $82.7 million (UA 55.56 million*) for the development of a 56-kilometre portion of the Batshamba-Tshikapa road in the Democratic Republic of Congo, between Lovua and Tshikapa on the country’s NR1. The grant supplements earlier Bank interventions on the same road.
The works include construction of a new bridge over the Kasaï River which crosses Tshikapa town.

The global Menengai project will exploit a portion of Kenya’s geothermal potential to provide power to about 500,000 households and 300,000 businesses.

17-Oct-2014 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group on Wednesday, October 15 in Abidjan approved a US $40-million 10-year Line of Credit (LoC) for a pipeline of projects covering various economic sectors (agro/food, infrastructure, manufacturing, education sectors) in the East African Community (EAC) countries of Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The projects aim to promote economic growth.
17-Oct-2014 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) approved a US $265,000 grant to the Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) partnership for the development of the Atlas of Africa’s Energy Resources. The grant will be funded through the “enabling environment” window of this AfDB-administered multi-donor facility mandated to unlock investments in clean energy in the continent.

15-Oct-2014 - African Development Bank Group President Donald Kaberuka met with Bill Gates, co-chair and trustee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, at his Seattle-area office on Tuesday to discuss ways to work together to improve the development of Africa.
Kaberuka also gave a talk that afternoon to a large audience of Foundation employees.
“We are all in the same boat, trying to get prosperity for the African people,” he told the larger group, recounting the two leaders’ discussion.
