AfDB Provides USD 12 Million Grant Resources to Finance ACBF Capacity Building Activities

13-Jan-2011 - Tunis – 12 January 2011- The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) on Wednesday, 12 January 2011 in Tunis signed a USD 12-million grant agreement to finance the ACBF’s  activities in Africa.

In 2010, the AfDB's investments in the infrastructure sector should account for two thirds of its total operations.

AfDB Invests USD 550 Million in New Egyptian Power Plant

23-Dec-2010 - Tunis, 24 December 2010 – A USD 550-million African Development Bank (AfDB) Loan, approved on 15 December 2010, will help Egypt build a new 650-MW power plant. “The USD 550-million loan, the biggest ever granted to Egypt in a single operation, underscores the importance which the African Development Bank attaches to power generation,” said Hela Cheikhrouhou, Energy, Environment and Climate Change Director.

AfDB Invests USD 806 Million in African Transport Sector

22-Dec-2010 - Tunis, 21 December 2010 - In line with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group’s 2008-2012 Medium-Term Strategy which has transport as one of its core intervention areas in the Regional Member Countries,  the institution’s Boards of directors approved USD 806.1 million loans and grants to finance a number of national and multinational transport infrastructure and related projects on the continent in the past two months. The operations concern Morocco, Kenya, Ghana, Congo, Central African Republic, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

BAD-Niger : Signature d’accords de 41 milliards de FCFA pour un appui budgétaire et pour l’éducation

22-Dec-2010 - Tunis, le 22 décembre 2010 - Le Groupe de la Banque Africaine de développement (BAD) et le gouvernement du Niger ont signé le mercredi 22 décembre 2010 à Tunis, des protocoles d’accords de dons et de prêts. Les accords de don du Fonds africain de développement (FAD), de 4,03 millions d'unités de compte*, et de prêt de 23,97 millions d’unités de compte, sont destinés au financement du programme d’appui à la stratégie de développement accéléré et de réduction de la pauvreté (PASDRP-1) au Niger.

AfDB Invests Over USD 1 Billion in African Energy Projects

21-Dec-2010 - Investing in Energy Infrastructure to Accelerate Africa’s Development Tunis, 21 December 2010 – In line with its strategy to boost energy infrastructure to accelerate Africa’s development, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved over USD 1 billion in energy projects across the continent during the last few weeks of 2010. The projects are located in Egypt, the DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.

AfDB and IsDB Sign USD 1 Billion Partnership MOU

21-Dec-2010 - Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 21 December 2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), on Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, signed a  USD 1 billion dollar partnership Memorandum of Understanding for joint project funding in their Common Member Countries. The MOU was signed by the AfDB Sector Operations Vice-President, Kamal ElKheshen  and the IsDB Vice-President, Birama Boubacar Sidibe.

AfDB and EIB Finalise Financing Agreement For Cape Verde Wind Farm

20-Dec-2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), on Tuesday, 14 December 2010,  closed the financing agreement to provide € 45 million to design, construct and operate onshore wind farms on four islands in the Cape Verde archipelago. This will be one of the largest wind projects in Africa and first renewable energy public private partnership in sub-Saharan Africa.

That strategy did not envisage a GCI until 2013 at the earliest. 11-Dec-2009 - Tunis, le 10 décembre 2009 – La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) et le gouvernement de la République de Maurice ont signé à Tunis, le 10 décembre 2009, un accord de prêt relatif à l’octroi de 420 millions USD et de 186 millions d’euros (équivalent à 700 millions USD) à la République de Maurice, pour financer le programme de compétitivité et d’efficacité du secteur public (CESP).

AfDB and Access Bank of Tanzania Sign 660,000 USD Technical Assistance Grant

AfDB Board Approves the Establishment of ClimDev-Africa Special Fund

11-Dec-2009 - Tunis, 2 December 2009 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on 2 December 2009, in Tunis, approved the establishment of the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) Programme Special Fund (CDSF).  The Board of Directors approval is however subject to the ratification of the Board of Governors, upon which a Governing Council shall be created to provide technical oversight of the CDSF while its broad implementation shall be subject to rules and procedures of the Bank.

04-Dec-2009 - La BAD et le gouvernement mauritanien ont signé, le 1e décembre 2009, à Zouérate, en Mauritanie, un accord de prêt relatif au projet d’extension de la mine Guelb El Rhein (Guelb II). Le prêt a été signé, pour la partie BAD et, au nom du vice-président de la BAD B. Pittman, par M. Lobe Ndoumbe, directeur à la BAD, et, pour la partie mauritanienne, par M. Taleb Ould Abdivall, administrateur et directeur-général de la SNIM.

Maroc : prêt de 110 M euros pour le développement du réseau de transport et de répartition d’électricité

04-Dec-2009 - Tunis, le 2 décembre 2009 -  Le Conseil d’administration de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a approuvé, le 2 décembre 2009 à Tunis, un prêt de 100 millions d’UC (équivalent à 109,82 millions d’euros) pour un projet de développement du réseau de transport et de répartition de l’électricité de l’Office National de l’Electricité (ONE) du Maroc. Le projet permettra l’amélioration de la qualité de service à l’ensemble des abonnés domestiques et industriels de l’ONE et aux régies de distribution.
