06-Apr-2004 - The Joint Africa Institute (JAI) recently in Tunis organized a High-Level Seminar on African Finance for the 21st Century. The seminar focused on financial sector development in sub-Sahara Africa and its contribution to economic development on the continent. The session focused on three themes: the development of financial institutions and markets; efficiency and soundness in the financial sector, and practical policymaking in weak institutional environments.

Mohamed Gharbi, vice-président du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement (Bad) chargé des opérations dans les régions Centre et Ouest, a estimé, lors de la cérémonie de signature, que « le renforcement des capacités humaines et institutionnelles est un besoin urgent pour le pays, en particulier dans le domaine de l’administration économique et financière ».
ADF, ECCAS sign grant agreement : institutional support project of the general secretariat of the ECCAS17-Jan-2004 - The ADB Vice-President for Central and West operations, Mr. Bisi Ogunjobi and the ECCAS General Secretary, Louis Sylvain-Goma signed in Tunis a grant agreement of 2.59 million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to 3.88 million US dollars to finance an institutional support project of the general secretariat of the ECCAS. The ADF grant will be used to revitalise and build the Secretariat’s ability to act in matter of economic integration and regional cooperation, through restructuring and implementation of its work programme.
29-Oct-2003 - The Bank organized this seminar, held in Abuja, Nigeria, for the Chief Executive Officers of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs). It was focused at raising awareness of the RECs on NEPAD and discussing NEPAD initiatives implementation at the RECs level. During the seminar, the Bank presented an exposé on the issues linked to the implementation of regional and sub-regional infrastructure programmes; the Bank also presented the role of lead agencies in NEPAD programmes. Other participants made presentations on related topics.
31-Mar-2003 - TransAfrica21 provides an annual meeting place for African government ministers, parastatal executives, and the international transport community to discuss investment and business opportunities associated with restructuring, privatization and private-sector participation in Africa's railways, ports, roads and airports are discussed. Over 200 delegates from 26 countries attended the Forum.
06-Mar-2003 - The seminar was organized by the French Development Agency (Agence française de Développement - AfD), under the theme "For a Continental Infrastructure Policy". During the meeting, the Bank was asked to present the Infrastructure Action Plan.
14-Jan-2003 - This International Policy Dialogue Conference was organized by the Development Policy Forum of InWent (Capacity Building International) of Germany, the German Chancellor's G8 Personal Representative for Africa, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the German Federal Foreign Office. The Bank's President intervened on the topic of Capital Flows.
19-Oct-2002 - The Conference was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa, under the theme "Accelerating Africa's Performance and Progress: the Challenge of NEPAD". Among the topics discussed, the Bank intervened to discuss the linkages between NEPAD initiatives and the Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).
11-Jul-2002 - A seminar took place within the Bank's Headquarters in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to sensitize NGOs on NEPAD issues. At this occasion, the Bank discussed the NEPAD programmes and their impact on the continent.
27-May-2002 - A symposium entitled "Towards Realizing the Objectives of NEPAD" was organized by the Bank during the Bank's Annual Meetings held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A workshop for Central Bank Governors and Ministers was also held during the Annual Meetings.
