Reinventing Growth in Africa
Professor Calestous Juma today at the Temporary Relocation Agency of the ADB in Tunis gave a conference on the Topic: ‘Reinventing Growth: Technological Innovation and Economic Renewal in Africa’. The conference was chaired by President Donald Kaberuka.
Professor Juma made a brilliant presentation on Development research development and problems faced by universities. He invited the ADB as well as African countries to pay more attention to these important sectors in combating poverty by providing more resources. Africa must learn from successful experiences of partnership between the public and private sectors in Asia and Latin America by creating synergy between research centers, universities and enterprises, he noted.
President Kaberuka expressed the gratitude of the AfDB to Prof. Juma for accepting to share his rich and long experience as a researcher with members of the Boards of Directors, management and staff, who turned up in large numbers to participate in the conference. "We have learnt a lot from the expose of the professor in a very short time. I am sure that your public is very proud of you (Prof. Juma) in your capacity of Ambassador of Africa in Applied Science and Technology. We share your keen interest in the contribution of science and technology to sustainable economic and social development of Africa.
The Conference is the second of Eminent Speakers Program, which is part of the newly-designed training framework to enhance the visibility of the Bank as a knowledge institution.
