21-Mar-2018 - On March 21, 2018, the world celebrates the International Day of Forests. It marks an occasion to shine the spotlight on the importance of sustaining and protecting woodlands and trees, which are vital to economies, livelihoods and environment. This year’s theme, ‘Forests and Sustainable Cities’, provides the platform to increase awareness on the role of forests in storing carbon, which helps mitigate the impacts of climate change in urban areas.

The African Development Bank participates in the 8th World Water Forum: Sharing and Learning

19-Mar-2018 - The World Water Forum, which is the culmination of 3 years of global water actors’ consultations, opened in Brasilia to over 30,000 participants. Facilitated by the World Water Council, a global body with over 600 member organizations, it will focus on sharing experiences and advancements in the sustainable development and management of this precious resource for social and economic development. Much emphasis is put on the fact that water security has wide-ranging impacts on energy, agriculture, industrialization and health.

African Development Bank, partners fund construction of 208-kilometre regional road project in Rwanda

19-Mar-2018 - The African Development Bank, the European Union (EU) Delegation in Rwanda, Embassy of Japan in Rwanda and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) joined the Government of Rwanda to launch the rehabilitation and widening of the Kagitumba-Kayonza-Rusumo road works in the Eastern province of Rwanda. The Bank’s US $93.1 million contribution represents 51% of the total cost for the project, which will directly serve 1.1 million and facilitate travel and trade between Rwanda, Uganda and the Eastern African region.

Rwanda Innovation Fund project to receive US $30-million loan from African Development Bank

19-Mar-2018 - The Board of the African Development Bank Group has approved a loan of US $30 million to support the establishment of Rwanda Innovation Fund (RIF). The main objective of the project is to promote innovation economy in Rwanda and the East African Community (EAC) region. The resource will be used to establish an investment vehicle focused on funding Tech-Enabled Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and to develop the country’s entrepreneurial/innovation ecosystem capacity.
