31/05/2018 - At its 2018 Annual Meetings in Busan, Korea, the African Development Bank signed a 5-year, US $3-million Line of Credit (LoC) with Sierra Leone’s Union Trust Bank (UTB), the only indigenous private bank in Sierra Leone and an important provider of finance for indigenous micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The LoC will primarily target local SMEs and women-owned businesses working in agriculture, energy, manufacturing and services, among others.

15/02/2017 - The Government of Sierra Leone, with financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and UK Aid, also known as Department for International Development (DfID), launched on Monday, February 13, 2017 the rehabilitation and extension of the Bo-Kenema Electricity Distribution System in Sierra Leone.

21/07/2016 - An award ceremony for top significant change stories following a competition to identify innovative projects that have contributed to advancing girls’ education in Africa was held in Nairobi recently.

The July 7, 2016 event was organised by the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) in partnership with the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA). The three most innovative stories were selected based on the criteria of access to education, retention and performance.

21/03/2016 - Sierra Leone has received a $300,000 grant from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) to prepare a far-reaching national Investment Plan (IP) to transform its renewable energy sector. The IP will be developed under the CIF’s Program for Scaling Up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries (SREP) in a collaborative approach that includes multiple ministries and stakeholders throughout the country, including private sector, commercial and development banks, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

04/03/2016 - A high level meeting took place on February 25, 2016 between a delegation of the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and the Human and Social Development Department (OSHD) of the African Development Bank to discuss further collaboration between the two institutions. The meeting was held at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

21/12/2015 - Sierra Leone will soon benefit from the construction and operation of a 50 MW power plant. The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on 17 December, 2015 in Abidjan, approved a senior loan of up to USD 20 million to fund up the construction and operation of a 50MW Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), interconnection facilities and a fuel pipeline in Kissy, four kilometers east of Freetown, Sierra Leone.
