Multinational Electric Power Grids Study: ADF supports Energy Integration in Western Africa

26-Jan-2005 - Tunis, 26 January 2005 – The African Development Bank (ADB) Group has decided to support the development of integrated hydro-electric power in West Africa. River basins in the sub-region offer an opportunity for the development of the largely unexploited energy potential. Hydropower would help end the persistent problems of power shortage and the heavy dependence on imported petroleum products for the production of electricity through the inter-connection of the sub-regional power grids.

AfDB, WAEMU Seek to Strengthen Cooperation

13-Jan-2005 - Tunis, 13 January 2005 – The African Development Bank Group (ADB) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) are working on a Protocol Agreement aiming at formally boosting cooperation between the two Institutions. This agreement could be finalized by June 2005. This is the conclusion reached at a recent working session held between the two Institutions within the framework of a visit to the Temporary Relocation Agency by a WAEMU delegation headed by the Chairman of the WAEMU Commission, Mr. Soumaïla Cisse.

13-Jan-2005 - The ADB Vice-President for North, South and East operations, Mr. Theodore Nkodo and Madagascar Minister of Finances, Mr. Benjamin Radavidsonsigned in Tunis two grant agreements from the African Development Fund (ADF) to finance a project for the control of communicable diseases HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases STD, tuberculosis and hepatitis) and a project of Institutional Capacity Building for Good Governance (PRIBG)in the amount of about US$ 9 million, equivalent to UA* 6 million for each project.

ADF, Burundi sign 4 loan and grant agreements to support socio-economic reforms, institutional modernization and good governance

12-Jan-2005 - The ADB Vice-President for Central and West operations, Mr. Bisi Ogunjobi and Burundi’s Minister of Finances, Mr. Athanase Gahungu signed in Tunis four loan and grant agreements from the African Development Fund (ADF) to finance three important operations for a total amount of US$ 36 million equivalent to UA* 23 million. These three operations will focus on administrative modernization, basic infrastructure rehabilitation, protection of environment and reinforcement of capacity building.
