16-Aug-2023 - The African Development Bank Group has awarded grant funding totalling $84.3 million to Ethiopia to advance wheat production and increase farmers’ incomes. Ethiopia’s Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and African Development Bank Group Deputy Director General for East Africa, Abdul Kamara, signed the grant agreement on 2 August 2023 for the implementation of the country’s Climate Resilient Wheat Value Chain Development Project (CREW).

Central African Economic Outlook 2023: Central Africa achieved the best economic performance in terms of growth, inflation and budget deficit compared with other African regions in 2022

03-Aug-2023 - Central Africa achieved real GDP growth of 5.0 percent in 2022, compared with 3.4 percent in 2021. The rebound in economic activity was driven by favourable prices for raw materials, in a region that is home to net exporters of crude oil, minerals and other commodities. The region’s growth rate was higher than the African average, which is estimated at 3.8 percent in 2022, down from 4.8 percent in 2021. It is set to settle at 4.9 percent in 2023 and 4.6 percent in 2024.

African Development Bank organises training to bolster public capacity for debt management

03-Aug-2023 - The African Development Bank Group has provided training on debt reporting, management and sustainability in Africa to financial sector experts drawn from several member countries. The training, the fifth, formed part of executive series organized quarterly by the African Development Institute's Public Finance Management Academy to strengthen the leadership skills and technical capacities of public finance managers. About 110 participants from 45 African countries attended the training. Participants commended the training.

02-Aug-2023 - The African Development Bank Group has expressed satisfaction with the implementation of its Country Strategy Paper for Burundi for 2019-2023 based on an evaluation by a Bank team led by country representative Pascal Yembiline. Approved in 2019, the CSP helped Burundi mitigate fragility and build resilience through two main pillars: support for the development and transformation of agriculture; and improvement of transport and energy infrastructure.

East Africa Regional Economic Outlook 2023: Mid-term growth for East Africa region projected highest on the continent for 2023-4

31-Jul-2023 - East Africa will register the highest regional economic performance on the continent in 2023 and 2024, with growth figures at over 5 percent, according to the newly published African Development Bank 2023 East Africa Economic Outlook. The report, launched on Thursday 27 July, projects mid-term economic growth in the region to accelerate to 5.1% in 2023 and 5.8 % in 2024, outpacing all the other African regions. This will be largely driven by growth in Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, and Tanzania.

African Development Bank achieves highest rating on proposed hybrid capital issuance

28-Jul-2023 - The African Development Bank Group has received global recognition for its planned hybrid capital issuance, positioning the Bank as a pioneer in innovative sustainable financing. The S&P Global Ratings assigned an AA-rating to the Bank's initiative, the highest rating for hybrid capital. The proposed issuance would be the first ever by a multilateral development bank.
