The ADB Board of Governors thanks President Ben Ali

Tunis, 27 July 2005 – On the occasion of the Extraordinary Meeting of the African Development Bank (ADB) held in Tunis on 21 July 2005, the ADB Board of Governors has adopted a vote of thanks to Mr. Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President of the Tunisian Republic, to the Tunisian Government and people in recognition of the excellent conditions offered to ensure the success of the Extraordinary Meeting for the Election of the 8th President of the ADB.

The Board Governors, representing the 77 ADB member countries, made up of 53 African countries and 24 non African countries, expressed its profound gratitude to the Tunisian Head of State, Mr. Ben Ali, in the presence of Tunisian Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ghannouchi, during the opening session of the Extraordinary Meeting.

The ADB member countries praised the untiring support provided by Tunisia to the ADB and its Temporary Relocation Agency in Tunis since February 2003.

The Board of Governors also paid tribute to the warm welcome it received from the Tunisian Government and people.
