The African Development Bank Group has launched a competition for young African design students to design a logo for its newest department, “the African Natural Resources Centre” (ANRC). The winner, who must be enrolled in a design program at an African educational institution, will be invited to the launching ceremony of the ANRC at the AfDB Annual Meetings in Kigali, Rwanda. The contest aims to give exposure to emerging talent on the African continent. The deadline for submission is 14 April.
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is a multilateral development finance institution established to contribute to the economic development and social progress of African countries. The Bank’s Ten Year Strategy recognizes the importance of natural resources management to foster inclusive growth on the continent. In 2013, the Board of the AfDB decided to create a new department, the African Natural Resources Centre (ANRC) to assist African countries in maximizing development outcomes derived from natural resources wealth.
Africa is rich in natural resources which have been the bedrock of the continent’s economy and continue to represent a significant development opportunity. However, several natural resources rich countries have not sufficiently managed to transform this wealth into inclusive economic growth and actual improvement of living standards for their population. The ANRC aims at addressing this paradox as the AfDB’s focal point for building knowledge, implementing policy and driving strategy for management of natural resources such as minerals, oil and gas, forests, fish, water or land. If well managed, these resources can be transformative for Africa, create revenues, jobs, infrastructure and better lives for the people of the continent.
The ANRC will be officially launched at the African Development Bank’s Annual Meetings in Kigali on 19-23 May 2014. On this occasion, the ANRC will release its new logo.
The logo must be visual, catchy, easy to reproduce on various supports of all shapes and sizes. It should clearly relate to the mandate of the ANRC which is to assist African countries to maximize development outcomes derived from natural resources wealth.
Selection of the top five entries will be made by a committee. The Selection committee will evaluate entries based on creativity and relevance to the visual eloquence of the logo in relation to the mandate of the ANRC.
The winner will be invited to attend the opening ceremony of the ANRC in Kigali, Rwanda. The prize includes travel (flight ticket and accommodation) to Kigali and a certificate of recognition.
The contest is open to African design students under the age of 35, who can provide proof of enrolment in a design program at a recognized African institution. African Development Bank’s employees or immediate family members are not eligible.
There is no participation fee.
The winner will be notified by email prior to an announcement appearing on the website.
By entering the contest, the winner grants the African Development Bank exclusive rights to the winning logo for use in any format for an unlimited period of time.
