The AfDB President’s visit to Kenya
The President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Donald Kaberuka made a historic visit to the Republic of Kenya from 20-23 August 2006. During the course of the visit, he held talks with Cabinet Ministers, Senior Government Officials and a number of Private Sector operators. On the occasion, the President also signed the Host Country Agreement for the opening of the Kenya Field Office which is scheduled to be operational before the end of this year.
In addition, the ADB President paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya, at the State House, informing him, among other things, that private sector and infrastructure development will be the key areas of ADB support to Kenya in the medium-term.
The President’s activities also included a field visit to the sites of two Bank-financed projects – the Nairobi-Thika Road and the NyayoTea Zones Development Corporation, in addition to holding bilateral discussions with the Head of the Donor Group in Kenya, and a Press Conference.
The President was accompanied by the Executive Director for Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania and Uganda, Mr. Zirimwabagabo, the ResRep for ADB Uganda Field Office, Mr. Ojelade, Mr. Tsikata of GECL, Mr. Wa-Kyendo, Transport Engineer, OINF, and Mr. Downie, Country Economist.
