The High-Level Meeting for RECs on the Implementation of the Plan of Action for the Second Decade
The high-level meeting of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) on the implementation of the action plan of the Second Decade of Education for Africa will take place from 6-7 November 2007 in Tunis, Tunisia.
The meeting is organized within the context of putting in place the conditions and mechanisms for the success of the Second Decade of Education (2006-2015). Reinforcing the role of education for the promotion of regional and continental integration is one of the most important objectives of the action plan for the Second Decade. The promotion of quality education is indeed one of the Millennium Development Goals. RECs are the pillars of the African Union. In this respect, they hold a key position in the chain of actors as they will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating and monitoring implementation of the Plan of Action of the Second Decade, particularly in the harmonization of activities at the continental and national levels. Furthermore, the RECs serve as the foundation for the integrated development of Africa, in all areas, including education.
This meeting is organized by the Commission of the African Union in partnership with the AfDB, UNESCO and the Association for the Development of Education in Africa.
