Zambia: African Development Bank, UN Nutrition Network will lead nutrition commitments

09-Sep-2019 - The African Development Bank country office in Zambia and the UN Nutrition Network have agreed to lead multi-agency commitments aimed at effective implementation of the country’s national food and nutrition agenda. The two agencies reached the agreement on 5 September 2019 when Bank country manager for Zambia, Mary Monyau, hosted the global coordinator and director of the UN Nutrition Network, Purnima Kashyap. Both recognized the role of good nutrition as the basis for sustainable human development.

The African Development Bank organises a successful open day with Liberian civil society

06-Sep-2019 - On 30 August 2019, the African Development Bank country office in Monrovia, Liberia held a civil society open day, which provided information on the progress of the Bank’s work, updates on current portfolio achievements and a presentation of the upcoming pipeline with regard to the next Liberia country strategy paper 2019 – 2023. The event brought together 56 Liberian civil society leaders, senior government officials from the ministries of finance and development planning, public works and agriculture.

06-Sep-2019 - The African Development Bank and the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) have signed two grant agreements to implement trade credit guarantees worth $5.4 million to support fertilizer value chains in Nigeria and Tanzania, potentially benefitting hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers. The organizations held a signing ceremony at the African Green Revolution Forum in Accra, Ghana on 5 September 2019.

02-Sep-2019 - Ezulwini, Eswatini, 2 September 2019 – The Kingdom of Eswatini has embarked on a recovery plan to fight its way out of an economic slump, the country’s Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg said on Monday. Rijkenberg made the remarks during an official visit by African Development Bank Group President Akinwumi Adesina. He said the new government, which took office after elections in November 2018, had adopted a strategic roadmap to guide the economic recovery.

Mozambique: African Development Bank contributes to major power transmission line

African Development Bank Group signs $28.8 million grant deal with Somalia for road and water projects

29-Aug-2019 - Mogadishu, Somalia, 29 August 2019 – The African Development Bank Group on 27 August 2019 signed two grants for $28.8 million for road and water supply projects to improve livelihoods in Somalia and boost resilience. The grants, approved by the Bank’s Board on 19 July 2019, confirm sustained efforts, especially by the African Development Fund, to tackle fragility in the Horn of Africa. They comprise $11.99 million for the Kismayo Baidoa urban water project and $16.86 million to partly finance a $66.7 million road.
