09-Sep-2021 - The African Development Bank Wednesday joined leaders of government and international organizations in calling for stronger partnerships to support Africa’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic at the first Egypt-International Cooperation Forum.
Participants also urged greater cooperation with the private sector in the short term to secure more rapid vaccine access for Africans. Gender equality and climate action were also discussed.
08-Sep-2021 - The African Development Bank, in partnership with the Nordic Development Fund and the Government of Denmark will roll-out a program to strengthen access to climate-resilient water and sanitation resources in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger and Somalia. The initiative is expected to strengthen recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There was only one hand pump for all the sections that everyone queued at to get water from as early as 4am,” says the 48-year-old refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who lives in the Tongogara Refugee Camp in a semi-arid part of Zimbabwe. She arrived at the camp in 2012. “People would quarrel and almost physically fight for water at the bush pump,” she added.

The oxygen plant was procured as part of measures to support the country’s ongoing Covid-19 response with a grant from the African Development Bank Group’s concessional lending arm. The project was implemented by the World Health Organization (WHO) on behalf of the government.

28-Aug-2021 - Participants of a G20 Compact with Africa meeting this week assessed Africa’s progress in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. “We are meeting at a pivotal time in the relationship between Africa and the rest of the world,” said Italian prime minister Mario Draghi.
The Compact with Africa is a G20 initiative that promotes macroeconomic, business and financing reforms to attract more private investment in Africa, including in infrastructure.
