02-Jun-2021 - En partenariat avec les autorités marocaines, la Banque africaine de développement organise, du 1er au 3 juin, un séminaire sur les sauvegardes sociales et environnementales qui encadrent ses opérations dans le Royaume. Tenu en distanciel, l’atelier a réuni plus d’une centaine de participants et experts des agences d’exécution et des unités de gestion de projets financés par la Banque. Le ministère de l’Énergie, des Mines et de l’Environnement était également représenté.

Facilité africaine de soutien juridique : mandat prorogé jusqu’en 2036 lors de ses Assemblées annuelles

31-May-2021 - La Facilité africaine de soutien juridique (ALSF) a tenu, les 25 et 26 mai derniers, en visioconférence, les Assemblées annuelles de son Conseil de gestion et de son Conseil de gouvernance, qui ont prorogé, à cette occasion, son mandat jusqu’en 2036. La prorogation du mandat, de 2022 à 2036, s’explique par ses réalisations, la demande croissante pour ses services exceptionnels, la pertinence de son soutien aux pays africains dans le traitement des impacts des problèmes comme le Covid-19 et le changement climatique.

Rwanda: African Development Bank extends $84 million in financing to boost electricity access

31-May-2021 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved  $84.22 million in loans and grants to electrify nearly 80,000 rural households in south Rwanda. The project will advance the country’s goal of universal electrification and benefit small businesses and youth.   The funds comprise a loan of $36.77 million from the Bank Group’s African Development Fund and a $47.45 million ADF grant. The approval was made on 26 May.

28-May-2021 - La Banque africaine de développement et l’Agence des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) au Niger ont remis, le 27 mai, trois ambulances médicalisées, du matériel médical et des médicaments au ministère nigérien de la Santé publique, de la Population et des Affaires sociales pour l’aider à faire face à la pandémie de Covid-19. Le responsable du bureau-pays de la Banque au Niger, Nouridine Kane Dia, et le représentant du HCR, Emmanuel Gignac, ont rencontré, à cet effet, le ministre nigérien de la Santé, Dr Idi Illiassou Maïnassara.

Africa Road Builders: Nigeria's President Buhari wins 2021 Super Builder Award - Babacar Ndiaye Trophy

28-May-2021 - Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was named the winner of the 2021 Great Builder Super Prize, the Babacar Ndiaye Trophy, during the inaugural Africa Road Builders Conference held in Cairo last week.     The Nigerian head of state, who succeeds his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi,  winner of the 2020 prize,  received the award  "for his personal leadership and for the efforts made to ensure road safety and the health of the population in the context of transport".

28-May-2021 - The African Development Fund has been ranked second among 49 international agencies for the quality of its development assistance, underscoring its relevance to the continent’s most vulnerable countries. The African Development Fund is the concessional arm of the African Development Bank Group. According to the fifth edition of the Quality of Official Development Assistance report, published on Tuesday, the Fund is serving its constituency well by focusing on poverty and the least-aided countries.

28-May-2021 - The Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) of the African Development Bank Group has  published a landmark report that deals with spiritual and cultural issues that emerged during the implementation of two Bank-funded energy projects in Uganda. The report presents measures that the Bank should consider when appraising compensation in such cases. It also aims to enhance social inclusion and trust among stakeholders of projects funded by the Bank in the future.

Adesina reminded an audience of Africa’s knack for unique home-grown innovation as he was honored by one of the continent’s oldest and most respected universities last Friday. Adesina joined graduates at a ceremony in Uganda, where he received an honorary doctorate from Makerere University. He recounted how a phone call from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni some 20 years earlier had led to one of the country’s most famous inventions.
