The African Development Bank Group approves a borrowing policy to strengthen debt sustainability in low-income countries

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved a new policy that aims to strengthen debt sustainability among low-income African countries. The Board approved the Sustainable Borrowing Policy on 23 February 2022.

The new policy primarily targets recipients of the African Development Fund, the concessional window of the Bank Group. The Fund caters to low-income and transitional countries on the continent.

African sports greats inaugurate state of the art sports facility for disadvantaged youth in Côte d'Ivoire

There was a buzz in the air as young spectators found their seats. Their excitement bubbled over at the sight of three African greats: former iconic Chelsea Football Club star and legendary captain of the Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire, Didier Drogba; eight-time NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame American basketball giant Dikembe Mutombo; and African Development Bank Group President, Akinwumi A. Adesina.

The three were there to inaugurate the new state of the art sports facility for disadvantaged youth in the Ivorian town of Bingerville, just outside Abidjan.

African Development Bank begins EDGE certification programme

The African Development Bank has begun the process of becoming certified under the Economic Dividends for Gender Equality, or EDGE, Certification programme, the leading global assessment certification for gender and intersectional equity in the workplace.

The Bank made the announcement on Monday, at an official online launch held a day before International Women’s Day. The event attracted participants from headquarters as well as several of its regional offices.

Multimedia group Silverbird names African Development Bank’s Akinwumi Adesina 2021 ‘Extraordinary Personality of the Year’

African Development Bank Group President Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, has received the ‘Extraordinary Personality of the Year’ award for 2021, conferred by Lagos-based Silverbird Group, a multimedia and entertainment business serving different areas of sub-Saharan Africa.

A spokesperson for the Silverbird Group said the award recognized Dr. Adesina’s commitment to promoting food security in Africa through agricultural innovation under the African Development Bank Group’s High5 priorities.
