West African Monetary Union: African Development Bank approves $750,000 grant for the development of the regional financial market

The African Development Bank on 9 February approved a $750,000 grant to drive reforms that will deepen the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) regional financial market and make it more competitive and attractive to investors.

The grant will be sourced from the Capital Markets Development Trust Fund, a multi-donor fund administered by the African Development Bank and financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Trade and Cooperation.

Malawi: African Development Fund signs $14.2 million grant agreement for financial digitalization initiative

The African Development Fund (ADF)and the government of Malawi have signed a grant agreement for $14.2 million to undertake infrastructure upgrades and create a more efficient and transparent digital payment system.

Funding for the Support for Digitalization, Financial Inclusion and Competitiveness (DFIC) project, approved last December, will be sourced from ADF, the Bank Group’s concessional financing window.

African Development Bank and WHO strengthen South Sudan’s emergency response with phase two of public health center

The government of South Sudan on Thursday inaugurated its Public Health Emergency Operations Center designed to respond promptly and effectively to public health risks and emergencies of international concern.

The center is part of a $4.2 million African Development Bank grant-financed Covid-19 response project that included procuring an oxygen plant, vehicles, a wide range of essential medicines, lifesaving biomedical equipment and personal protective equipment. The World Health Organization (WHO) implemented the project.
