African Development Bank Group Board approves €10.5 million pooled investment in tech start-up fund to boost innovation across sub-Saharan Africa

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved an equity investment pool of €10.5 million toward the first close of the Janngo Start-Up Fund, a pan-African tech start-up fund.

The pooled funds comprise €7 million provided by the African Development Bank and a €3.5 million contribution by the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

African Development Bank Debars Weihai Construction Group for 35 Months for Fraudulent Practices

The African Development Bank Group, on 23 December 2021, announces the conclusion of a negotiated settlement agreement with Weihai Construction Group, thus putting an end to sanctions proceedings for fraudulent practices raised against that company. Pursuant to the negotiated settlement agreement, Weihai Construction Group, registered in China, will be debarred for a period of 35 months, effective 19 November 2021.

African Development Bank Coding for Employment Digital Ambassadors program: More than 19,000 applications received

The African Development Bank has received a huge response to its call for applications to take part in a training program that seeks to bring digital skills to Africa’s underserved communities.

More than 19,000 aspiring digital ambassadors have applied since the program launched on 17 November. All eligible African youth are encouraged to apply for the peer-to-peer learning program before 31 December at 17.00 GMT.

Denmark extends $30 million grant to African Water Facility for climate-smart water and sanitation services in four drought-prone countries

The Danish government has provided a $30.1 million grant to the African Development Bank-managed African Water Facility to enhance access to quality water and sanitation for Africans living in four arid and drought prone countries. 

The grant will benefit rural dwellers in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Somalia under the Facility’s Improving access to climate-resilient safe water supply and sanitation services in the Sahel and Horn of Africa program. The grant is expected to cover the period through 2025.

Congo et RD Congo : La Banque africaine de développement renforce les capacités de ses partenaires sur les sauvegardes sociales et environnementales

La Banque africaine de développement a organisé du 15 au 17 décembre derniers, par visioconférence, un atelier de renforcement des capacités sur les sauvegardes environnementales et sociales au Congo et en République démocratique du Congo. Les cellules d’exécution de projets des missions de contrôles, des ministères en charge de l’Environnement et des Affaires foncières en étaient les bénéficiaires.
