Ghana: Accra Sewerage Improvement Project

Tunis, 26 April 2006 – Accra City is expected to significantly improve its sanitation system thanks to a loan of the African Development Fund (ADF).

The Accra Sewerage Improvement Project (ASIP), approved by the institution’s Board of Directors on Wednesday 26 April 2006 to the tune of 46 million Units of Account* (US$ 66 million or 602 billion Cedi), will provide an improved and extended sewerage and sanitation system for disposing of waste water from the city of Accra, in an environmentally and socially acceptable manner, to meet the demand up to year 2020.

Bank Group Signs First Private Sector Loan in Ethiopia

The Bank Group on Tuesday in Addis Ababa signed its first private sector loan agreement in Ethiopia. The US$ 200 million loan agreement between the Bank Group representing other donors - IFC, EIB and Development Bank of Ethiopia - and the Derba Midroc Cement PLC will help the Ethiopia-based company finance its projects in the country. The signing ceremony was attended by the country’s President, Grima Worlde Giorgis; Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Addisu Legesse; as well as other senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and key private sector players.

AfDB Finance for Zambia’s Electric Power Project

Lusaka, 12 June – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on Thursday in Lusaka, signed US$ 1.2 million grant agreement with the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO).

AfDB Vice President for Country Policy and Programmes, Joseph Eichenberger, who signed for the Bank, said at a brief ceremony at the ZESCO headquarters that the grant would finance advisory services for two electric power generation projects in Zambia.

Mali: Community Development Support Project

Tunis, 3 May 2006 – A new loan of the African Development Fund will support community development in 505 villages in Mali.

The loan of 15 million Units of Account* (US$ 22 million or 11.7 billion CFA) approved by the ADF Board of Directors on Wednesday 3 May, will build the capacities of all local development stakeholders, improve access to basic socio-economic infrastructure and extend financial services to remote areas.
