AfDB and Nigeria Sign a US$ 43 Million Skill Training and Vocational Education Project Loan Agreement

Abuja, 22 May 2006  - The African Development Bank (ADB) President, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, and the Nigerian Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Sunday signed a loan agreement of 30 million Units of Account (Equivalent to $43 million) to finance a Skills Training and Vocational Education Project (STVEP).

AfDB Group Supports Livestock Sector in Sao Tome and Principe

Tunis, 31 May 2006 - The African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (ADB) Group, will support a project to improve livestock productivity in the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe. The ADF Board today approved a grant of 4 million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to US$ 5.88 million, for the partial financing of a 5-year Livestock Development Support Project Phase II (LDSP II) in the country.

The ADF Finances Smallholders Farm Improvement in Kenya

Tunis, 31 May 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African development Fund approved a loan of UA 22.98 million and a grant of UA 1.15 million (US$ 35 million cumulatively) to finance the Kimiraoluch smallholder farm improvement project in Kenya.

The objectives of the project are to develop sustainable environmentally friendly smallholder irrigation schemes along the shores of Lake Victoria and to increase household income and food security through irrigated smallholder agriculture.

Ghana - Afram Agricultural Development Project

Tunis, 31 May 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund on Wednesday approved a loan of 19.97 million Units of Account (UA*) equivalent to US$ 29 million or 261 billion cedis  to help reduce poverty and improve the welfare of rural populations in Ghana.

The Afram Agricultural Development Project (Eastern Region) is expected to help increase agricultural output and household incomes of the project beneficiaries.
