47 Million Euros to Tunisia to Strengthen the Performance of the Electricity Distribution Network

Tunis, 14 October 2009 - The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (Société Tunisienne d’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG)) and the African Development Bank (ADB) Group on 13 October 2009 signed a loan contract of 47.570 million Euros (equivalent to DT 90 million) for the partial financing of the Electricity Distribution Networks Rehabilitation and Restructuring Project for an overall cost estimated at DT 112 million. The signing ceremony took place at the Tunisian Ministry of Development and International Cooperation in Tunis.

AfDB Africa Food Crisis Response Initiative-Kenya Gets US$12 Million

Tunis, 14 October 2008 – The African Development Bank Group has approved the immediate release of 7.71 million Units of Account (UA*), about US$ 12 million to Kenya to help the country tackle growing food shortages.

The funding will be used to procure and distribute fertilizers to farmers to boost food production during the current cropping season.  The Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) will be responsible for the procurement and distribution of fertilizers.

US$ 33 Million Approved for Ethiopia-Djibouti Power Interconnections Project

Tunis, 8 October 2008 – Prospects for the completion of the Ethiopia-Djibouti power interconnection became a reality on Wednesday in Tunis, where the Board of Directors of the African Development Fund, the concessionary window of the AfDB Group, approved a combined loan and grant of 20.92 million Units of Account*, equivalent to US$ 32.57 million, to fund the Project.

Zambia: ADB Private Sector supports Copper Mining - USD 43 million to Lumwana Mining Company Ltd.

Tunis, 27 September 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved in Tunis on Wednesday a loan of US $ 43 million to the Lumwana Mining Company Limited. The project is located in the North western province of Zambia. It involves the development of an opencast mine, the construction of a copper concentrate processing plant, a transmission line from Solwezi to Lumwana, water dam and tailings storage facilities, and associated infrastructure.

Tanzania: ADF Approves US$ 59 Million Loan to Finance Campaign to Reduce Maternal Mortality

Tunis, 11 October 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, approved on Wednesday in Tunis, a loan of 40 Million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to US$ 59.05 million, to finance a Maternal Mortality Reduction Support Project in Tanzania.
