Mozambique: US$ 88 million to finance Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty II

Tunis, 27 October 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on Friday in Tunis, approved a loan of 60 million Units of Account, about US$ 88 million, to finance through Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty II (PARPA II), to reduce poverty headcount from 54% to 45% between 2005 and 2009.

ADF Supports Efforts to clear Invasive Aquatic Weeds in West Africa

In order to arrest this scourge, the African Development Fund (FAD) has approved a project on the Integrated Management of Invasive Aquatic Weeds in West Africa (IMIAW) for a total amount of US$11.76 million. This funding includes a loan of US$7.4 millions and a grant of US$1.45 million.

The goal of the project is to ensure the sustainable management of the natural resources, especially the water resources, and optimize their contribution to social, economic and environmental development of the sub-region.

The ECOWAS will implement the three components of the project:

Bank Group and Chad Sign Grant Agreement

The Bank Group and Chad on 17 June, 2009, in N’djamena signed an African Development Fund (ADF) grant agreement of Uunits of Accounts (UA) 31.61 million to finance the Koumra-Sarh road maintenance project. The AfDB Resident Representative in Chad, Pascal Bitoumbou, signed for the Bank, while the country’s Economy and Plan Minister, Ousman Matar Breme, signed for his country. The grant agreement was witnessed by several ministers, senior officials of technical ministries and staff of the Chad field office.

AfDB Approves US$ 24.5 Million for Onchocerciasis Control Program in Africa

Tunis, 15 July 2008 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the soft loan window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, in Tunis on Tuesday approved a grant of 15 million Units of Account (UA*) about US$ 24.5 million to finance Phase II and the phasing out stage of the Onchocerciasis (river blindness) Control Programme (APOC) in 19 African countries.

Bank Group and Madagascar Sign Emergency Aid Agreement

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Madagascar field office and the Malagasy government on Tuesday, 16 June, 2009 in Antananarivo, signed a grant agreement of US$ 1 million as emergency humanitarian aid for victims of the floods caused by cyclone Fanele. The humanitarian assistance operation comes as a supplement to the Bas Mangoky Rice Perimetre Rehabilitation project (PRBM) financed by the Bank Group. The specific objective of the emergency humanitarian aid is to repair the perimeter’s protection dyke damaged by the Mangoky river floods caused by cyclone Fanele.
