AfDB offers Financial Assistance to the West African Development Bank (BOAD)

Tunis, 30 January 2008 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday in Tunis, a capital subscription of Euro 3.05 million and a Line of Credit (LOC) of Euro 40 million to the West African Development Bank (BOAD). BOAD is a regional financial institution which provides financing for the economic development of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) member states by diversifying its sources of finance.

ADF Strengthens Good Governance in Madagascar

The Board of Directors of the Fund on Wednesday in Tunis, approved a grant of 5.86 million Units of Account (about 9 million US dollars), to help finance a project aimed at strengthening the national capacity to implement good governance programmes with the ultimate of reducing poverty by half by 2015.

The project has three components:

- Support to the enhancement of transparency and accountability in public finance management;

- Support to the modernisation and enhancement of the legal and judicial environment;

- Project management

Ghana: AfDB Approves US$ 16 Million Private Sector Loan to Finance Kempinski Accra Hotel

Tunis, 23 January 2008 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday in Tunis, a loan of US$ 16 million to finance the construction of Kempinski Accra Hotel in Ghana. The project is in line with the newly approved private sector operations strategy which aims to promote catalytic transactions with a strong demonstration effect and positive impacts on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Tunis, 20 December 2006 –The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund, meeting today in a weekly ordinary session in Tunis, recognized that the Central African Republic had met the criteria for receiving financial assistance within the framework of the institution's Post Conflict Country Facility.
