Launching of Axle-load Control on Bamako-Ouagadougou-Accra Corridor

Tunis, 18 November 2004. Burkina Faso, Ghana and Mali will launch on 18 December an axle-load control system along the road corridor linking their capitals, within the framework of Road Programme 1 (RP1) financed by the African Development Fund (ADF), with other donors.

The decision to implement the Axle-Load Control Programme along the Bamako-Ouagadougou-Accra road corridor was taken by the ministers of transport of the three countries at the close of their meeting on 24 September in Accra.

XIth Summit of NEPAD's HSGIC

The NEPAD's Heads of States and Governments Implementation Committee (HSGIC) meets on a regular basis to assess progress in NEPAD. The Bank participates in these meetings, as a core NEPAD stakeholder and technical adviser. During the XI th Summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Bank's President made an intervention.

Africa Takes Center Stage at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City

Mexico City, 17 March 2006 (Joint Press release: AMCOW, ADB, AWF, UNECA, NEPAD) - Africa has developed only three percent of its technically feasible hydropower potential while only six percent of its cultivated land is irrigated, according to a new report to be released on 19 March 2006 on Africa Day at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City. African Ministers underscored this situation today in Mexico City as they declared open the African Pavilion amidst celebration, drumming and dances.

1st African Development Bank's Water Week

The Water Week aimed at engaging the stakeholders and partners in the African water sector, consolidating existing partnerships and creating new ones, as well as galvanizing broad support from both stakeholders and the wider international community to advance African water resources development and management. It was during the Water Week that the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative (RWSSI) and the African Water Facility (AWF) were officially launched.
