ADF Supports Burkina Faso’s Priority Action Programme
Tunis,15 December, 2005 – The African Development Fund approved a new loan aimed at intensifying the reforms initiated in 2001 by Burkina Faso with a view to promoting strong and sustainable economic growth.
Financing Water and Sanitation in Africa
Tunis, 16 June 2006 – A Consultative workshop on Financing and Cost Recovery in the African Water Sector organized in Tunis by the African Development Bank (AfDB), brought together representatives of regional member countries, multilateral development partners, financial institutions, and other stakeholders such as Private sector and civil society organizations to examine Financial Instruments and Cooperation with development stakeholders with a view to supporting the Water Sector in Africa.
Madagascar: AfDB Approves Emergency Humanitarian Aid Grant
The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on Tuesday, June 2, 2008, approved an emergency humanitarian aid grant of US$1 million to finance repair work on the Bas Mangoky irrigated perimeter levee in Madagascar. The approval is in line with the Bank’s emergency aid policy given that it is designed to finance infrastructure rehabilitation following floods in the region. The financing complements Malagasy government and OPEC Fund contributions estimated at US$1 million and US$0.5 million, respectively.
Cameroon: Yaoundé Sanitation Project
Tunis, 14th December 2005 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) today in Tunis approved a grant amounting to 25,6 million Units of Account (US$ 36 million or CFA 20.3 billion) to Cameroon to finance the Yaoundé Sanitation Project. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction in the urban areas. Its specific goals are to help limit the effects of floods that disrupt the city’s socio-economic activities and more so in the poor squatter areas that cover about 62.4% of the area of Yaoundé City.
AfDB supports Submarine Fiber Optic Cable for Western Africa
A Senior Loan of up to USD 66 million to finance the Main One Project
Tunis – 28 May 2009- The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved financing of USD 66 million towards the Main One Cable Company for developing a submarine fiber optic cable connection along the West African coast. With this investment, the Bank has further expanded its wide support for African ICT projects following investments in the East African “EaSSy” submarine cable and the two satellites Rascom and New Dawn.
