Tunis - AfDB Group Approves Projects to Enhance Regional Integration and Trade Competitiveness

Tunis, 21 July 2006 – The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank (ADB) and Fund (ADF) today approved a number of projects that are expected to contribute significantly to enhancing regional integration and trade competitiveness in the region.

Meeting in regular weekly session in Tunis, the Boards approved loans and grants totaling nearly US$ 400 million to finance infrastructure and other projects in different parts of the continent and support the development activities of some regional economic communities.

AfDB Grants US$ 97 Million Budget Support to DRC to mitigate impacts of financial crisis

Tunis, May 6, 2009 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group Board of Directors approved in Tunis on Wednesday, an African Development Fund (ADF) grant of UA 65 million (US$ 97.18 million) to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to finance the country’s Emergency Programme to Mitigate the Impacts of the International Financial Crisis (PUAICF).

AfDB Board Adopts Framework for Bank Lending in Local Currencies

Tunis, 24 July 2006 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a policy framework for providing loans denominated in the currencies of its regional member countries. The framework provides the basis on which decisions will be made from time to time to designate any particular currencies as lending currencies.

The main rationale for the provision of financing in local currency is to reduce the exposure of borrowers to foreign exchange risk, particularly as many projects have expenditures and revenues denominated in local currency.

Malawi: health sector support programme

Tunis, 24 November 2005 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank Group approved today  in Tunis a grant of 15 million Units of Account (US$ 21.85 million) to help finance a health sector support programme in Malawi.

The objective of the programme is to establish, through a Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) arrangement, an effective and efficient health care delivery system that is responsive to the needs of the people, especially vulnerable groups such as the poor, women and children.

African Development Bank supports K-Rep Bank: Invest KShs 174.8 million (US$ 2.2 million) to promote entrepreneurship and economic growth in Kenya

Tunis – 06 May 2009 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved financing of KShs 174,800,000 (US$ 2.2 million) to support K-Rep Bank in Kenya.

K-Rep is distinct from other commercial banks or financial institutions, because of its social mission of providing financial services to low income and poor urban and rural people who do not have access to commercial banking services as means of building an asset base for themselves.
