33 African Countries to Benefit from US$8.5 Debt Relief

Tunis, 4 September 2006 – The Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI) became effective on Friday following the approval of the initiative by the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.

Thirty-three regional (African) member countries would benefit from the US$ 8.5 billion debt relief under the MDRI to be provided by the ADF (list of beneficiaries: see below).

AfDB Group Funds AIDS Campaign in Lake Chad Basin

Tunis, 26 October 2005 – The African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has approved a grant of 10 million Units of Account* (US$ 14.5 million) to finance a project in support of the Lake Chad Basin Initiative to Reduce vulnerability to and risks of sexually transmitted diseases, Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus and AIDS (STI/HIV/AIDS).

Kenya Secures US $22 million Loan to Restore Farm Infrastructure and Rural Livelihoods

Tunis, 29 April 2009 –  The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessionary window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, approved on Wednesday in Tunis, a loan of 15 million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to US$ 22.4 million to finance a Farm Infrastructure Restoration and Rural Livelihoods Project (RFIRLP) in Kenya.

The project’s objective is to restore agricultural production and livelihoods for 19,000 farm households displaced by the Post-Election Conflict (PEV) in the districts of Molo and Uasin Gishu in the Rift Valley Province.

AfDB Group Appoints a New Treasurer

Tunis, 5 September 2006 –  The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has appointed Mr. Stefan Luis Nalletamby as Director of the Bank Group’s Treasury Department (FTRY), effective 1 September 2006. He replaces Ms Arunma Oteh who was promoted to the position of  Vice President for corporate affairs in March.

Mr. Nalletamby, 45, joined the Bank in 1998 as Principal Investment Officer. He was promoted  Manager of the Investments Division of the Treasury department in 2001.

Mozambique: US$ 27 Million Loan for Water Supply and Sanitation Project

Tunis, 29 April 2009 – Mozambique has secured a loan of US$ 27 million (18 million Units of Account (UA*), from the African Development Fund, the concessionary window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, to finance a water supply and sanitation project in the country’s northern Niassa Province.

The Niassa Provincial Towns Water and Sanitation Project approved by the AfDB Board on Wednesday in Tunis, is designed to improve access, quality, availability and sustainability of water supply and sanitation services in the province’s Cuamba and Lichinga towns.
