AfDB Pledges US$600 Million for North-South Corridor Activities
Tunis, 7 April 2009–The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has pledged to invest US$600 million in the activities of the North-South corridor in the short-to-medium term. The announcement was made by the AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka, on April 6, 2009, during a keynote address at the Tripartite North-South Corridor Pilot Aid for Trade Programme Conference, held in Lusaka, Zambia.

Uganda - AfDB Private Sector Provides USD 110 Million to Improve Electricity Production
Tunis, 2 May 2007- The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday in Tunis approved US$ 110 million to finance the Bujagali hydroelectric power project in Uganda.
The project will finance, build and operate a 250-MW run-of-the-river power plant on the White Nile River near Jinja. Associated Bujagali Interconnection Project will link the power plant to the national electricity grid via the construction of about 100 km of 220 kV and 132 kV transmission lines and associated substations.

Madagascar - AfDB Provides 150 Million US Dollars Loan to Improve the Extractive Industry
Tunis, 2 May 2007- The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday in Tunis, approved US$ 150 million to partially finance the Ambatovy Nickel Project in Madagascar.
The Project involves the development of an open pit mine, an ore slurry preparation plant at the mine site, a 220 km pipeline to move the ore slurry to the coast, a pressure acid leach processing plant, a metals refinery, and all the necessary infrastructure, including water, power and steam generation, acid production, tailings disposal, and port facilities.
