New York, 14 September 2007-As leaders of the major multilateral and inter-governmental organizations working for development in Africa, we, the heads of the United Nations, African Development Bank, African Union Commission, European Commission, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank and the World Bank, met today to establish the MDG Africa Steering Group. Through this group, we will coordinate and redouble our efforts in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) across the African continent.

Tunis, 11 September 2007 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has authorized a Compliance Review of the Bujagali Hydropower and the Bujagali Interconnection projects in Uganda. The Board gave the approval last week in Tunis, under the rules and procedures of the Bank Group’s Independent Review Mechanism (IRM).

On 8 September 2007, Mr. Famara Jatta presented his letter of appointment as Resident Representative of the African Development Bank Group in Sudan to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity in Sudan, His Excellency Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin.

The ceremony was attended by Faiza Mohamed and Elfaith Khalid all of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy Planning.

The following interview presents an African Development Bank’s view on the development impact of a Unitary Government in Africa. The Vice President in charge of Infrastructure, Water and Sanitation, Private Sector development, and regional integration and trade, Dr. Mandla S.V. GANTSHO who has just completed his first year in this position, discusses the idea of the Unitary Government for Africa and what he anticipates for the Bank in its regional integration activities as the Unitary Government idea gains momentum and eventually materializes.
