Multilateral Development Banks Publish Joint Performance Report
26 January 2007 – The African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank are making good progress in adopting Managing for Development Results (MfDR) practices, according to a joint report just released by them. These MfDR practices aim to improve the design, implementation, and evaluation of strategies and operations with a view to achieving relevant development results.
AFDB Launches Bond Denominated in Nigerian Naira
Tunis, 22 January 2007 – The Bank has successfully launched its first bond issue denominated in Nigerian Naira (NGN). The issue, launched early last week, has a maturity of one year, a face value of NGN 127.80 million (the NGN equivalent of USD 100 million) and a fixed coupon of 9.25%.
Regional Workshop on the African Comparison of PPP-adjusted GDPs and Price Level Differentials – Kigali, Rwanda 15-20 January 2007
The main objective of the workshop is to review and endorse:
- detailed GDP estimates for RMCs participating in the ICP-Africa;
- the main results of PPP-adjusted GDPs and Price Levels generated by the ICP-Africa
“First of its kind” agriculture and rural development evaluation approved by AfDB and IFAD Executive Boards
Tunis and Rome, 10 January 2007 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) are set to begin an independent joint evaluation this month that will review the agricultural and rural development policies and operations of AfDB and IFAD in Africa between 1996 and 2005.
«"IFAD and AfDB share the need to understand better what works in fighting rural poverty and what doesn’t," said IFAD President Lennart Båge, after the evaluation was approved by each of the organizations’ Executive Boards in December 2006.
AfDB Grants USD 7m to Gambia for Rural Water and Sanitation Access
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has signed two grant agreements with the Gambian government totalling USD 7 million to improve access to clean drinking water and better sanitation for an estimated 40,000 people in rural areas of the country and cut hygiene-related deaths in those areas, particularly among children.
The African Development Fund, the AfDB’s concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm, is providing USD 5 million and the remaining USD 2 million dollars will be provided by the AfDB’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative Trust Fund.
