AfDB and other lenders boost access to electricity in Cameroon

The African Development Bank (AfDB), and other development finance institutions including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), the Development Bank of Central Africa (BDEAC), Proparco, and a syndication of local banks led by Standard Chartered Bank signed on 22 December a loan agreement to provide a EUR 198 million to the Kribi Power Development Company (KPDC).

La BAD finance le traitement des eaux pour l’agriculture en Tunisie

La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a approuvé, le 11 janvier 2012, un financement de 64,45 millions de dinars tunisiens  (32,45 millions d’euros) destiné à un projet de mise à niveau des infrastructures de traitement des eaux usées. L’objectif de ce projet est d’améliorer la qualité des eaux épurées qui serviront à l’irrigation de 5000 hectares de terres agricoles. L’agriculture constitue une importante activité économique en Tunisie et contribue à la sécurité alimentaire du pays.  

ADF Grants USD15.6 million to African Virtual University

The African Development Bank Group’s board of directors has approved a USD15.6 million grant from its concessionary lending arm, the African Development Fund (ADF) to help strengthen the capacity of African Virtual University (AVU).

Agnes Soucat, the bank’s director for human development, said: “One of our human development goals is to increase access to higher education through information communications technology (ICT) and help African institutions benefit from and contribute to the global production and distribution of knowledge.

AfDB Group’s African Development Fund makes USD 155 million loan to support private sector reform and economic governance

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved an African Development Fund (ADF) loan of USD 155.2 million to the United Republic of Tanzania on 16 December 2011. The loan will help support private sector reform and economic governance within the framework of the Governance and Economic Competitiveness Support Programme. The African Development Fund is the AfDB Group’s concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm.

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved, on 16 December, funding of USD 107.4 million for the construction of the Trans-Gambia Bridge and Cross Border Improvement Project. The financing package, which is being extended through the African Development Fund (ADF), the African Development Bank Group’s concessionary lending window, comprises an outright grant of USD 102.3 million and ADF concessionary resources of USD 5.1 million.
