AfDB makes €11.7 million loan to improve governance and growth in Niger

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a loan of €11.7 million euros (FCFA 7.7 billion) to Niger from the African Development Fund, its concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm, to finance better governance and boost inclusive economic growth in the country.

The money will be used for its domestic resource mobilization and economic and financial governance improvement support programme, known as PAMOGEF.

AfDB approves US $231 million for building resilience to food and nutrition insecurity in the Sahel

In a move aimed at ending the frequent cycles of drought and famine in the Sahel region, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 approved loans and grants amounting to US $231 million to finance a Programme to Build Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2RS).

The programme involves member-countries of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILLS) – Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

AfDB makes USD 100m loan for better water and sanitation in Nigeria

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a loan of USD 100 million to improve water and sanitation in the city of Zaria in northern Nigeria through the African Development Fund, its concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm.

The project will include the rehabilitation, expansion and construction of water and sanitation facilities in the city.  Some 1.4 million people will gain improved access to clean water and sanitation.  In addition, the project will provide extra benefits for women and girls.

AfDB marks World Food Day focusing on role of women and youth in agriculture

The African Development Bank Group joined the international community in celebrating the World Food Day in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Thursday, October 16 on the theme, “Investing in Women and Youth is Key to Feeding Africa.”

“We are working on flagship programmes, among others, that will support women and youth engagement in agriculture,” the Director of the Bank’s Agriculture and Agro-Industry Department, Chiji Ojukwu, said in a statement.
