AfDB and Government of Sudan launch drought resilience and sustainable livelihood program for three states

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Sudan, in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), launched, on Monday, November 22, the Sudan component of Phase II of the Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihood Program for the Horn of Africa (DRSLP-II).

Most Significant Change Stories: Mapping innovative programmes to advance girls in secondary education in Africa

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) are collaborating to launch a competition from Thursday, November 19 to Monday, December 21, that seeks to identify innovative programmes that have advanced girls’ secondary education. This initiative is in tandem with ADEA’s contribution to “facilitating the transformation of education and training to drive Africa’s accelerated and sustainable development,” and FAWE’s mission of “promoting gender equity and equality in education in Africa.”

African Water Facility to celebrate 10th Anniversary

On March 25, 2015, the African Water Facility (AWF) will mark 10 years of its existence. A series of high-level events are being planned to celebrate this milestone in Abuja from November 25 to 27. The event will be hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources. The meetings will be attended by African Ministers of Water Resources, development partners, senior members of the diplomatic corps, academia and the private sector.

AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina commends Ethiopia for its economic performance and key role to reduce fragility

African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina commended the Government of Ethiopia for its macro-economic performance and its support to reduce fragility on the continent. His remarks were delivered on Tuesday, November 24 in Addis Ababa as he concluded a two-day visit in the country to reinforce cooperation with the African Union, the Government of Ethiopia, and other partners. 

AfDB to host 4th annual workshop on local currency bond markets

The 4th Annual African Financial Markets Initiative (AFMI) workshop on Local Currency Bond Markets will take place on November 30 to December 1, 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Over 30 countries will be represented. 

During the workshop, the AFMI will present recent developments on the African Financial Markets Database. The event will also discuss ways to promote inclusion of more countries to the African Development Bank (AfDB/AFMISM) Bloomberg® African Bond Index (ABABI) – namely the provision and collection of accurate pricing data.
