Leadership Matters, the focus of premiere Baobab Forum
The African Development Bank (AfDB) will host a group of opinion leaders, global thinkers, and innovators, among others, at its headquarters in Abidjan on August 31, 2015 for the premiere edition of its new speaker series called The Baobab Forum.
Under the theme “The Many Faces of Leadership for African Development”, the forum seeks to deliberate on how to address the development gaps on the continent. It will be a yearly knowledge and learning event with the objective of capturing and sharing new and inspiring ideas to tackle Africa’s challenges.
AfDB unveils plan to empower African Women in Agriculture
The office of the Special Envoy on Gender (SEOG) and the Department for Agriculture and Agro-industry (OSAN) of the African Development Bank (AfDB) launched a new report, “Economic Empowerment of African Women through Equitable Participation in Agricultural Value Chains” on Thursday, August 27 at its headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
First two projects of Africa Climate Change Fund approved to support climate finance readiness in Africa
The newly established Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) has approved its first two projects in the past month. One will support Mali with preparatory funding to advance its low-carbon, climate resilient development agenda, and the second will strengthen data and information on climate change vulnerabilities and opportunities for 54 African countries.
Ethiopia first country to launch ClimDev-Africa Special Fund project
The ClimDev Africa Special Fund (CDSF) launched its first project in Ethiopia on August 3 to help the country cope with, and build resilience to, climate change by enhancing capacity in climate monitoring, data analysis, interpretation, forecasting and dissemination for use in national decision-making.
Meles Zenawi Foundation holds inaugural symposium on the African Democratic Developmental State
The Meles Zenawi Foundation in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Rwanda is holding its inaugural symposium on August 21, in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “The African Democratic Developmental State.”
Inspired by the late Ethiopian Prime Minister’s commitment to the state’s prominent role in building robust accountable institutions and facilitating rapid sustainable development, the symposium aims to foster rigorous intellectual debate on issues related to development.
