“Betting on Africa to Feed the World”: Adesina, 2017 World Food Prize Laureate, to deliver Norman Borlaug Lecture on World Food Day

The African Development Bank President, Akinwumi Adesina, will deliver the Norman Borlaug Lecture as part of the World Food Prize events taking place from October 16-20, 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

The Norman Borlaug Lecture titled “Betting on Africa to Feed the World” will be held on World Food Day, October 16, in conjunction with the annual World Food Prize celebration.

President Adesina will receive the 2017 World Food Prize on Thursday, October 19. The prize is to agriculture what the Nobel Prize is to peace, science and literature.

AfDB approves US $310 million Trade Facilitation Loan for Ecobank Transnational Incorporated

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, in Abidjan, a US $310 million trade finance loan for Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, parent company of the Ecobank Group. Through this facility the AfDB will provide critical trade finance funding to support economies in which Ecobank is present.

African Development Bank urges power sector to capitalize on women’s capabilities

The African Development Bank Group, in partnership with the French Development Agency, Association of Power Utilities of Africa and African Network of Centers of Excellence (ANCEE) organized a three-day seminar on “Promoting Gender Equality in the African Power Sector” at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan.

The seminar brought together 50 human resource directors from 50 power utility companies, eight Directors from ANCEE and other participants from more than 25 African countries to the Bank for the talks.

African Water Facility launches new Strategy 2017-2025

The African Water Facility (AWF), hosted by the African Development Bank Group, formally launched its new Strategy 2017–2025 on October 13, 2017 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The occasion was used to introduce and share with stakeholders, partners, donors, beneficiaries and various Bank departments collaborating with the AWF the innovative approaches that it will focus on over the next 10 years in order to deliver on its mandate of mobilising financing for the water and sanitation sector.
