Objectives

The primary objectives of the project are to: (i) link the remote communal areas with the main social and economic centres of the country; and (ii) lower transport costs by upgrading the existing earth or gravel roads to all-weather bitumen surfaced standard.

Description

The projects consists of: i) upgrading and construction of two roads totalling 136 km from predominantly earth or gravel standard to two-lane bitumen standard. The two roads are: Shurugwi-Mandamabwe 61 km Wedza-St. Annes-Rusape 75 km and ii) consultancy services for supervision of construction works.

Benefits

The economic rate of return is extimated at 12.7% for the Shurugwi-Mandamabwe road and 13.3% for the Wedza-St Anne's-Rusape road. In addition to there economic benefits the project will bring about other benefits which are not easily quantifiable such as generation of employment opportunities.
