Argan Infrastructure Fund (ARIF) is a closed-end private equity fund with a focus on energy and transport along with other associated areas such as ICT. ARIF will divide its investments between North and Sub-Saharan Africa through two entities. Overall, ARIF expects to commit 40% to Morocco, 30% to other North African countries and 30% to Sub-Saharan Africa, in particular West Africa.
Increase private sector participation in infrastructure projects by leveraging the Fund's equity investment.
The Bank's participation along with other DFIs is expected to attract additional private sector investors. In addition, the Bank's general efforts to improve the enabling environment for infrastructure development will benefit the Fund's investments. Finally, in specific instances, the Bank may consider providing additional financing for the Fund's portfolio projects to facilitate their development.
The Fund will provide scarce equity capital and catalyze additional funds for infrastructure projects. The Fund's investments in development stage projects will contribute towards increasing the access to infrastructure in the Bank's RMCs, while the Fund Manager's ability to productively manage assets will increase the value for the users of such facilities.
