Terms of Reference for ABM Board members

The ABM Board will be hosted by the African Development Bank. It will consist of 5-8 senior experts, whereof 50% women.  Eligible ABM Board members are senior experts representing key stakeholders for ABM: governments and/or renowned organizations from developed and developing countries, international organizations, NGOs, private sector and science. The Board members should have a good knowledge of a broad range of areas related to climate change adaptation, strong political sensitivity and strategic skills, and should be motivated to make ABM a success. 

Other criteria, include:

  • Demonstrate at least 10 years of working experience at senior level in the area of climate change or other area relevant for climate change adaptation.
  • Be familiar with the similarities, differences, technical challenges and political sensitivities concerning the implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation activities.
  • Be familiar with the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement decision-making, in particular on issues related to market and non-market mechanisms, climate change adaptation, finance, transparency/reporting and/or other relevant areas.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, in English. Working knowledge of other African official languages, in particular French or Portuguese, is desirable; 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in an international environment;
  • Have an advanced university degree in economics, environmental studies, natural sciences, engineering, or any related disciplines.
  • Expect to devote an average of 8 hours per month to reviewing emails and joining conference call and electronic meetings of the Board approx once per quarter.
