Investing in transition countries can present a financial opportunity with potential for outsized returns for those willing to engage in these markets and seize the first-mover advantage. While these markets can be highly challenging, this website aims to demonstrate the potential for investment in transition states – specifically, in the Horn of Africa. It also aims to be a resource for information on the investment climate and opportunities in Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan, as well as potential non-transition countries acting as entry points to the Horn, including Ethiopia and Kenya.
The Leveraging Strategic Private Sector Investment for Fragile States project, is a key initiative through which the Bank is seeking to advance private sector development in transition countries in Africa by facilitating investments and trade between South Korea and the Horn of Africa region. South Korea is a strategic partner of the AfDB and Africa’s economic ties with South Korea have been growing over the past decade. The development path South Korea followed strongly models the public sector-enabled, private sector-led development approach, which is encouraged by the AfDB.
