Health & Social Protection
While Africa has made significant progress in health outcomes, ensuring universal access to quality healthcare remains a key challenge. The continent’s health challenges include poor infrastructure, counterfeit drugs, shortage of health workers and poor access to quality health services.
A healthy population is central to the development agenda in Africa and key to inclusive and sustainable growth.
As part of this effort, the African Development Bank, in July 2013, launched the Value for Money Trust Fund to implement the recommendations of the Tunis Declaration on Accountability and Sustainability. Ministers of Finance and Health approved the Declaration along with partners of the Harmonization for Health in Africa. The Trust Fund is hosted at the African Development Bank and receives support from donors such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.
