The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2008 to work together to increase access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for all Africans.
The objective of this partnership is to bridge the digital divide that exists in Africa in two particular areas - between Africa’s different regions and countries, and between Africa’s main urban centers and its rural areas.
Cooperation between the two parties focuses on the use of technology to advance e-Government; ICT institutional capacity building; business capacity building; education and e-learning; ICT skills development, and the enhancement of technology access.
Following the signing of the MOU, an Implementation Plan Meeting was held in July and September 2008 with the Microsoft Technical Team in order to agree on a time-bound joint implementation plan.
