Mr. Desta Mebratu has more than 22 years of experience working in industry, government agencies, universities and international organizations. He has been working for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since August 2003 and is currently serving as the Deputy Regional Director of UNEP Regional Office for Africa. His main areas of expertise are: resource efficiency, environmental management systems, sustainable development policies and sustainable energy systems. He has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, books and conference reports. A chemical engineer by background, Mr Mebratu has a PhD in engineering in Industrial Environmental Economics and an MBA in International Business.
