Jointly organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the AEC aims at providing a forum for the exchange of ideas among economists and policy-makers with the view to improving access to information and research on economic issues and, as a consequence, the quality of economic policy-making in Africa. The AfDB launched the first annual African Economic Conference (AEC) in November 2006. UNECA and UNDP came on board as co-organizers respectively in 2007 and in 2010.

“The Bank is fully engaged to enhance transparency in resource use and management, governance in the public sector, the rule of law and building institutional capacities and frameworks for investment.” – Akinwumi A. Adesina, President, AfDB Group
