Project Brief – TENKE FUNGURUME

28-aoû-2015

The Tenke Fungurume project (the Project) involves mining the Tenke oxide ore deposit and its treatment in a conventional hydrometallurgical plant to recover copper and cobalt. Project output will be 115000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of LME Grade A copper cathode and 10,000 tpa of cobalt metal (mix of refined form and hydroxide metal). The project includes the development of a mine and upgrade of supporting infrastructure such as power, roads, and water. The estimated project life is 41 years, comprising 19 years of primary mining of the ore deposit and 22 years of secondary mining involving the treatment of stockpiles.Copper and cobalt will be recovered from Kwatebala, Goma, and Fwaulu, three adjacent ore bodies in the southern Katanga Province of the DRC, about 170 km from Lubumbashi. The Tenke Fungurume deposits comprise one of the world’s largest and richest known copper and cobalt resources.
